After root canal treatment
Root canal treatment saves a tooth whose soft centre (the pulp) was infected or inflamed. The tooth often feels tender for a few days.
Today
- Your lip and tongue may stay numb for a few hours. Wait until the feeling comes back before eating or having hot drinks.
- The tooth may feel tender, especially when you bite. Painkillers such as paracetamol can help, as advised by your dentist.
Between visits
- You may have a temporary filling. Avoid biting hard or sticky food on that side.
- Brush and clean between your teeth as normal, gently around the tooth.
After the treatment is finished
- A back tooth usually needs a crown to protect it. Avoid biting hard on it until the final filling or crown is done.
- Keep your follow-up appointments.
Call the clinic if
- Pain or swelling is getting worse after 2 to 3 days.
- The temporary filling comes out.
- Your bite feels high, or the tooth feels cracked.
Call 98957 30568 or 0460 2202784. Mon–Sat 9:30 am – 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm; Sunday closed.
Go to hospital casualty straight away if
- Swelling spreads towards your eye or down your neck.
- You find it hard to breathe or swallow.
- Bleeding is heavy and will not stop with firm pressure.
